Rabat – The Moroccan Office of Copyright and Related Rights (BMDAV) announced the launch of an online platform for the registration of professional journalists working in the print media sector and newspaper publishers who are eligible for photocopying royalties.
The office said the website will go live on August 1 at www.bmdav-repro.ma.
The platform will allow users to declare their print-published newspaper articles. The office said the initiative is part of the implementation of the photocopying royalties management system.
The office said a timeline has been established for registration requests and newspaper article declarations. The process will cover articles published in 2024, 2025, and 2026 to facilitate the distribution of royalties for each year separately.
The period between August 1 and December 31, 2026, will be reserved for declaring newspaper articles published in 2024. From January 1 to June 30, 2027, journalists and publishers will be able to declare articles published in 2025.
Beginning July 1, 2027, the platform will accept declarations for newspaper articles published in 2026.
The office concluded the statement by urging journalists and publishers to adhere to the announced schedule and respect the specified deadlines.
The announcement follows a meeting held in April on enabling print media stakeholders to benefit from photocopying royalties.
The Ministry of Youth and Culture organized the meeting in collaboration with BMDAV to present the newly introduced copyright framework.
The framework aims to modernize copyright practices and strengthen intellectual property rights in the media sector.
To qualify, journalistic articles must meet specific criteria, including demonstrating originality and creativity rather than simply reproducing news content.
Articles must also be deposited with the National Library and have an International Standard Serial Number (ISSN), allowing them to be identified by their publication date, title, subject, journalist’s name, and the issue in which they were published.
