Agadir – Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM) has issued a commemorative silver coin to mark the 27th anniversary of King Mohammed VI’s accession to the Throne.
The MAD 250 coin features the King’s effigy on the obverse and commemorative artwork celebrating the anniversary on the reverse. Morocco celebrates Throne Day annually on July 30, commemorating King Mohammed VI’s accession to the Throne in 1999.
The special coin reflects Morocco’s royal heritage and cultural identity through artistic elements incorporating the image of the King, national symbols, and inscriptions in Arabic, Tifinagh, and French.
According to a statement from Bank Al-Maghrib, the obverse side of the coin features the effigy of the monarch surrounded by the inscriptions “Mohammed VI” and “the Kingdom of Morocco” in Arabic and Tifinagh script.
The same side also includes the years “2026 – 1448,” marking the corresponding Gregorian and Hijri years.
The reverse side displays an artistic representation of fireworks in the form of stars, accompanied by the coat of arms of the country and the coin’s denomination written as MAD 250.
It also features the number “27” in reference to the anniversary being commemorated, along with the inscription “the 27th anniversary of his majesty the King’s accession to the throne,” in Arabic and French.
BAM said the commemorative coin is made of an alloy composed of 925 parts per thousand silver and 75 parts per thousand copper. It weighs 28.28 grams, has a diameter of 38.61 millimeters, and features a reeded edge with a “Proof” finish.
The issuance of commemorative coins has become a tradition through which Bank Al-Maghrib celebrates major national events and milestones, while showcasing Morocco’s history, symbols, and craftsmanship.
As part of the national celebrations, the King is set to deliver his annual Throne Day speech on the eve of the anniversary, outlining the country’s achievements, priorities, and key national and international issues.
