Rabat – Moroccan footballer Faten Ben Omar El Azizi, who played for Morocco Moghreb Atlético Tetuán, has died after attempting to swim to the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, according to local media reports. The tragedy has left Tangier’s sports community in mourning.
According to local outlet Al Chamal 24, El Azizi lost her life while trying to cross the sea to Ceuta in what has been described as a tragic incident that shocked the city and the wider local community.
The incident comes amid a recent surge in irregular migration attempts from northern Morocco toward Ceuta. Several people have reportedly died in recent days due to dangerous sea conditions and security-related challenges during these crossings.
