Casablanca – Everything changed on Friday. After Barcelona and Ajax reached a full agreement with Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s representatives, the German goalkeeper travelled to Amsterdam to complete his move. He is set to undergo his medical examination and sign for Ajax on Saturday, with the official announcement expected to follow.
The 34-year-old left Barcelona’s preseason camp at St. George’s Park in England to complete a season-long loan until June 2027. Barcelona will continue paying around 90% of his wages, while his contract at Camp Nou runs until June 2028.
It took an entire summer. Since June, negotiations went from one setback to another: an agreement practically finalized one day, talks at a standstill the next.
Less than a week ago, Matteo Moretto of Marca described the transfer as completely stalled once again, first because of tax issues and then due to a disagreement over Financial Fair Play regulations, with the Catalans refusing to make any further adjustments.
The move also sets up a reunion with Míchel, who took charge of Ajax last June after working with Ter Stegen at Girona. Their previous spell together lasted just two matches before a serious thigh injury forced the German goalkeeper to end his season early.
Míchel has now placed his trust in the veteran once again.
