Meknes – The Jordan Football Association will unveil Moroccan coach Badou Zaki as the new national team manager during a press conference in Amman this Thursday.
Succeeding compatriot Jamal Sellami on a renewable one-year contract, Zaki is expected to present his roadmap for Al-Nashama ahead of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.
The JFA confirmed that the press conference will take place this Thursday at 12:00 PM local time (10:00 AM Moroccan time) at its main headquarters. Alongside Zaki’s official unveiling, the association will detail its key strategic goals for the national team’s next phase.
Zaki is the third Moroccan coach in a row to manage Jordan, following Houcine Ammouta and Jamal Sellami. Both previous coaches achieved major success, putting Jordan back at the center of Asian and Arab football.
Ammouta achieved success by leading Jordan to their first-ever Asian Cup final, highlighted by a memorable 2-0 win over South Korea in the semifinals before falling to Qatar in the final. He stepped down in June 2024 and was succeeded by Jamal Sellami.
Sellami also made history by leading Jordan to their first-ever World Cup, securing qualification for the 2026 tournament with a 3-0 win over Oman. However, the JFA parted ways with the Moroccan coach following a group-stage exit, while still praising his key role in achieving that milestone.
The JFA is relying on Zaki’s extensive experience, pointing to his two spells with Morocco, including leading the Atlas Lions to the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations final.
Zaki’s arrival highlights the high regard for Moroccan managers in Jordan today. After the impressive success of Ammouta and Sellami, Moroccan tactical leadership has become a core element of Jordan’s long-term football plans.
