Rabat –Tangier’s coastal and artisanal fishing landings reached 4,594 metric tons during the first half of 2026, marking a 92% increase compared with the same period in 2025.
According to figures from Morocco’s National Fisheries Office (ONP), the market value of the landings rose by 13% to more than MAD 128.49 million. The value stood at approximately MAD 113.87 million during the first half of last year.
The increase in quantity was therefore much stronger than the rise in total market value. Most of the growth came from white and pelagic fish.
White fish recorded the highest percentage increase among the main categories. Landings rose by 131% to 923 metric tons, compared with 400 metric tons one year earlier. Their market value increased by 46% to more than MAD 31.15 million.
Pelagic fish made up the largest share of Tangier’s fishing landings. Their volume increased by 109% to 3,252 metric tons during the six-month period. Their market value also rose by 19% to more than MAD 68.72 million.
Other seafood categories recorded mixed results. Cephalopod landings fell by 8% to 276 metric tons, while their market value declined by 18% to more than MAD 21.68 million.
Crustacean landings increased by 8% to 143 metric tons. However, their market value fell by 16% to more than MAD 6.93 million.
Across Morocco, commercially marketed coastal and artisanal fishing landings fell by 6% to 367,184 metric tons during the first half of 2026.
Their total market value, however, rose by 2% to more than MAD 4.91 billion, showing a clear contrast between Tangier’s performance and the broader national trend.
