Meknes – Ajax Amsterdam added another big name to their summer roster on Tuesday, signing former Germany goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen.

The 34-year-old joins the Dutch side on a one-season loan from Barcelona. The deal will see Ajax add veteran leadership and elite international experience to their squad ahead of the new season.

Prior to his move to Amsterdam, the 44-cap Germany international enjoyed a loan spell at Spanish side Girona FC during the second half of last season, playing under manager Míchel Sánchez.

Commenting on the transfer, Ajax Technical Director Jordi Cruyff pointed out the value and experience the German goalkeeper brings to the squad ahead of the new season.

“Marc has an outstanding track record, and his qualities are widely recognized,” “Cruyff said. “He is an immediate addition to our squad. Marc and I know each other well, and I’m looking forward to working with him again.”

“We have been working on bringing him here for quite some time, so we’re very pleased that he has signed his contract and can now get started,” he added.

This latest move follows last week’s signing of former Germany international Julian Brandt. The 30-year-old arrived in Amsterdam as a free agent, agreeing to a three-year contract with the Dutch outfit.

In addition to their German signings, Ajax have reinforced their attack by landing Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers. They also spent under €20 million to bring in Brazilian forward Marcos Leonardo from Saudi side Al Hilal on a five-year contract.

Ter Stegen’s arrival caps off a transformative summer for Ajax, blending elite veteran leadership with attacking talent. As pre-season preparations wrap up, the pressure is now on the team to translate these high-profile signings into dominant performances.
