Rabat – Arsenal are close to completing the signing of Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United after a decisive breakthrough in negotiations, according to BBC Sport.
The two clubs have reached agreement on nearly all aspects of the transfer, with only the final paperwork and formalities remaining.
While the exact fee has not been officially confirmed, it is expected to rise to around £80 million.
Guimarães is currently with Newcastle at their pre-season training camp in La Manga, Spain, but is waiting for permission to leave and travel to London to complete the move.
Arsenal are already preparing for the Brazilian’s medical, which is expected to take place later this week. If everything goes as planned, an official announcement could follow shortly afterwards.
The 28-year-old has made it clear that he wants to join the Premier League champions, with Mikel Arteta identifying him as his top midfield target this summer.
Newcastle and Arsenal have continued to work through the remaining details over the past few days, but those discussions are now believed to be little more than a formality.
Barring any unexpected late complications, such as an issue during the medical or final contract checks, Guimarães is expected to complete his move to the Emirates Stadium in the coming days.
The transfer would represent one of Arsenal’s biggest signings of the summer and further strengthen a squad aiming to compete on all fronts once again.
