Agadir – Canadian mining company Aya Gold & Silver announced today that it has acquired a strategic portfolio comprising three mining licenses and 18 exploration permits covering around 259.1 square kilometers across the Zagora, Agadir-Melloul, and Goulmim projects.
The acquisition expands the company’s exploration footprint around its existing assets, including the Zgounder silver mine, while increasing its exposure to precious, base, and critical metals.
The newly acquired Zagora project covers 158.6 square kilometers through 11 exploration permits and is considered prospective for nickel, cobalt, lead, zinc, silver, and gold mineralization.
Meanwhile, the Agadir-Melloul project includes three mining licenses and five exploration permits covering 68.5 square kilometers. The area is considered prospective for copper, silver, gold, and rare earth element mineralization.
The Goulmim project consists of two exploration permits covering 32 square kilometers and is believed to have potential for lead, silver, copper, and gold mineralization.
Aya Gold & Silver President and CEO Benoit La Salle said the acquisition marks another step in the company’s long-term exploration strategy in Morocco.

“This acquisition reinforces Aya’s first-mover advantage in Morocco and advances our strategy of building one of the largest exploration portfolios in the country,” La Salle said.
He added that the company has significantly expanded its land holdings this year.
“In 2026, we have expanded our land package from approximately 732 km² to more than 991 km², representing an increase of 35.4%. We continue to secure district-scale positions early, consolidate highly prospective mineral belts and build a pipeline of exploration opportunities that have the potential to unlock future discoveries and support Aya’s next phase of long-term growth.”
According to the company, the acquisition increases its total exploration land package in Morocco to more than 991 square kilometers.
Aya said it plans to launch a phased greenfield exploration program over the next 18 to 24 months to evaluate the discovery potential of the newly acquired properties. The initial work will include stream sediment geochemistry, high-resolution hyperspectral surveys, geological mapping, and prospecting before determining the need for geophysical surveys and drilling.
