Rabat – A 45-year-old Moroccan man rescued a nine-year-old boy from drowning in Lake Como, northern Italy, after spotting the child struggling in the water near the Tempio Voltiano waterfront, Italian newspaper La Provincia di Como reported on Thursday.

The incident took place shortly after 1 p.m. in an area where swimming is prohibited but still attracts people looking to bathe.

The boy was in the lake with several others when he began experiencing difficulties.

The Moroccan man quickly stepped in and managed to bring the child safely back to shore.

The boy recovered and was later reunited with his mother.

The rescuer injured his ankle during the intervention and was taken to Sant’Anna Hospital for treatment. His injury was not considered serious.

Emergency medical teams, police, the Coast Guard, and firefighters were dispatched to the scene.
