Rabat- Eight teams have been eliminated from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), taking place in Morocco from July 25 to August 16.
The group stage concluded in Morocco, bringing several teams’ campaigns to an end and leaving the competition’s quarter-final lineup confirmed.
The eight teams eliminated after the group stage were Mali, Zambia, Cape Verde, Senegal, Kenya, Tanzania, Egypt, and Burkina Faso.
Mali became the latest team to exit the competition, joining the other seven eliminated sides after a 1-1 draw with Ghana in their final Group D match on Thursday.
The result left Mali in third place in the group, behind leaders Cameroon and runners-up Ghana, who both secured qualification for the quarter-finals.
Cameroon secured the top spot in Group D with seven points after a 1-1 draw with tournament debutants Cape Verde, who exited the competition despite earning their first-ever point at a WAFCON finals.
The completion of the group stage confirmed the quarter-final lineup, with Nigeria set to face Cameroon in one of the standout fixtures of the knockout stage. Morocco will meet South Africa, while Ivory Coast will take on Algeria, and Ghana will face Malawi in the remaining quarter-final tie.
The winners of the four quarter-final matches will qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
