Rabat – Morocco Weather Alert: Thunderstorms, Strong Winds and Hail Forecast Across Several Provinces
Morocco is expected to experience thunderstorms, strong winds, and possible hail across several provinces, according to the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM).
The latest Morocco weather alert forecasts heavy rainfall in parts of the country from this afternoon until 11 p.m., following a period of intense summer heat.
Morocco Weather Alert: Rainfall of Up to 35 Millimeters
The DGM expects thunderstorms in Boulemane, Khenifra, and Midelt, where rainfall could reach between 20 and 35 millimeters.
Similar conditions are forecast in Ouarzazate, Taroudant, Tinghir, and Al Haouz. The thunderstorms could be accompanied by strong wind gusts and localized hail.
The weather office also forecasts thunderstorms in Figuig, Jerada, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Ifrane, Guercif, and Taourirt.
The unstable weather comes after several regions of Morocco experienced particularly high temperatures during recent heatwaves.
Heatwave Continues Across Morocco
Temperatures in some central and southern provinces have reached up to 45 degrees Celsius during periods of extreme heat.
Coastal areas have generally recorded temperatures between 27 and 33 degrees Celsius. However, exceptional heat episodes have pushed temperatures to around 37 degrees in some coastal cities.
Rabat, for example, experienced temperatures of approximately 37 degrees during the end of June and beginning of July.
The combination of thunderstorms and high temperatures reflects significant variations in Morocco’s summer weather conditions.
Health Authorities Recommend Heat Precautions
Morocco’s Ministry of Health has urged residents to take precautions during periods of extreme heat, particularly when temperatures remain elevated for several consecutive days.
Health authorities recommend drinking sufficient water throughout the day, wearing lightweight clothing, and limiting direct exposure to the sun.
People are also advised to avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest hours of the day. Extra attention should be given to people who may be particularly vulnerable to high temperatures.
Residents of provinces covered by the Morocco weather alert should also remain attentive to official forecasts and warnings as weather conditions develop.
