Meknes – Romelu Lukaku is heading to Turkiye after Fenerbahce confirmed the signing of the Belgian striker from Napoli on Wednesday. The move brings an end to his time in Serie A as he prepares for a new chapter in the Super Lig.
While the exact transfer terms remain confidential, Italian outlets report that Fenerbahce agreed to a €6 million fee plus add-ons. The deal brings the former Chelsea, Manchester United, and Inter Milan forward to Istanbul on performance-related bonuses.
Speaking in an official video message addressed to supporters shortly after the announcement, the Belgian international expressed his excitement about embarking on this new chapter in Istanbul.
“It’s an honour and a privilege to be joining your club, to join this club with a wonderful history,” Lukaku said.
Looking ahead to his new chapter in Istanbul, the striker expressed gratitude to his new manager while reassuring fans about his physical condition.
“I want to thank the coach for the trust and the belief in me as a man, first of all, and also my qualities as a football player. I’m fit, 100% ready to go,” he added.
The 33-year-old striker helped Napoli capture the 2024–25 Serie A title, but his final season in Italy was disrupted by injuries. The veteran forward was restricted to just seven appearances across all competitions during a frustrating campaign.
Despite his limited club action, Lukaku was still named to Belgium’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad. He made a strong impact on the international stage, scoring three goals as his country reached the quarter-finals.
Reflecting on his personal ties to the country, the forward admitted the switch to Istanbul carries special emotional weight.
“For me, it’s also like a little emotional moment because after many years going back to Turkey, where I lived as a young kid, where I discovered the professional world as a toddler with my dad,” he explained.
“It’s going to be special and a very emotional moment to be back there. I’m very proud that it is with Fenerbahce.” the striker concluded.
Fenerbahce finished as runners-up last season, falling just three points short of champions Galatasaray. They will look to launch a stronger title charge when they open their new Super Lig campaign against Gençlerbirliği on Saturday.
