Rabat – Istanbul has officially been selected as the host city for the 2027 Spanish Super Cup, marking the first time the Turkish city will stage the competition.
The tournament will take place from February 2 to 7, 2027, at Istanbul’s Atatürk Olympic Stadium, with four of Spain’s biggest clubs set to compete for the first major trophy of the year.
The four participating teams are defending champions Barcelona, La Liga runners-up Real Madrid, Copa del Rey winners Real Sociedad, and Atlético Madrid.
The semifinal draw has produced two high-profile clashes. Barcelona will face Atlético Madrid, while Real Madrid will meet Real Sociedad. The winners will advance to the final in Istanbul.
Barcelona enter the competition as the reigning champions after defeating Real Madrid in the 2026 Spanish Super Cup final in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Why Istanbul?
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) chose Istanbul after considering seven proposals to host the tournament. The decision means the Spanish Super Cup will leave Saudi Arabia for one year after the kingdom has hosted the competition regularly since 2020.
Saudi Arabia will not host the 2027 edition because the tournament’s dates coincide with the 2027 Asian Cup. The Spanish Super Cup is scheduled to return to Saudi Arabia in 2028.
The RFEF has also highlighted the financial importance of the competition, saying its benefits contribute to nearly 1,000 football clubs across Spain, including men’s and women’s football.
The move to Istanbul will give the Turkish capital the opportunity to host a major Spanish football event at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium, a venue known for staging major European matches.
With Barcelona aiming to defend their title and Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid, and Real Sociedad looking to claim the trophy, the 2027 Spanish Super Cup is set to bring a high-profile clash of Spanish football to Turkey.
