Casablanca – Morocco has taken another significant step toward completing the Grand Stadium of Casablanca, after launching two international tenders worth nearly MAD 370 million ($39.5 million) to accelerate work on the venue in Benslimane Province.
Issued by the National Agency for Public Facilities, the contracts focus on two key components of the stadium.
The first contract, valued at approximately MAD 92.5 million ($9.9 million), covers the installation of a hybrid natural grass pitch, reinforced with synthetic fibres to withstand the demands of elite-level football.
The project also includes advanced underground ventilation and drainage systems, mobile LED grow lights, and an intelligent irrigation network capable of monitoring temperature, humidity, and soil salinity through integrated sensors.
Construction is expected to take 14 months, while the successful contractor will also be responsible for maintaining the playing surface for 24 months following the provisional handover.
The second contract, estimated at MAD 277.5 million ($29.9 million), concerns the supply and installation of seating across the stadium, including dedicated sections for supporters, media representatives, and VIP and VVIP guests.
It also covers press workstations and camera platforms, with all seating subject to strict installation and numbering standards.
The seating works are scheduled to follow the same 14-month timeline, with contractors facing financial penalties for delays under the terms of the agreement.
Beyond the technical specifications, the project also includes measures aimed at supporting Morocco’s domestic economy.
Contractors are required to prioritize Moroccan-made materials wherever possible, while up to 20% of the workforce must come from the local area surrounding the construction site.
The Grand Stadium of Casablanca is one of Morocco’s flagship infrastructure projects as the country continues to modernize its sporting facilities ahead of hosting major international football competitions.
Once completed, the venue is expected to meet the highest international standards and become one of the largest football stadiums in the world.
