Morocco Waives Short-Term Visa Requirement for Albanian Citizens

Casablanca – Morocco will waive visa requirements for Albanian citizens traveling to the Kingdom for short-term stays, according to a notification sent by the Moroccan Embassy accredited to Albania and based in Rome to Albania’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.

The measure takes effect on August 15, 2026. It follows a commitment made by the two countries in a Joint Declaration signed on March 1, 2025, during the official visit of Albania’s then-Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, to Morocco.

The declaration was signed by Hasani and Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita. The two sides said at the time that they wanted to strengthen cooperation in political, economic, trade and cultural fields.

The visa decision was also presented as a way to support tourism and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries. During Hasani’s March 2025 visit, the two governments agreed to work on closer links between their business communities and to expand cooperation in areas including trade, investment, agriculture, tourism and culture.

Morocco and Albania established diplomatic relations on February 11, 1962, with Morocco becoming the first Maghreb country to establish formal diplomatic ties with Albania. The two countries are represented by non-resident ambassadors, with Albania’s diplomatic coverage handled from Madrid and Morocco’s from Rome.

Trade remains relatively limited despite the political relationship. Albania’s foreign ministry has said Morocco is the main destination for its exports to Africa and its third-largest supplier among African countries. Both sides have been seeking to expand economic ties and complete the legal and institutional framework needed for greater cooperation.

In March 2025, Albania also recognized Morocco’s autonomy initiative for Western Sahara as a serious and credible basis for resolving the regional dispute, while both countries reaffirmed support for the UN-led political process.
