Rabat – Several clubs are racing to secure Morocco’s Azzedine Ounahi’s services; beyond Hull City, Ipswich Town, and Saudi Arabia’s Al Ittihad, all want him this season.
Reports are also linking him to Atletico Madrid, with the club ready to offer Girona €20 million
Spain’s Atletico Madrid joined the queue for the midfielder, while other media reports have also linked him with Manchester City.
On Monday, Goal said Ounahi is closing in on an exit from Girona, weighing up Europe’s giants against the Saudi league.
On Wednesday, Spanish sports-focused news outlet Mundo Deportivo reported that the clubs are pushing hard to sign Ounahi, one of Girona’s key players.
“All three clubs have expressed their willingness to pursue a player whose future seems to lie away from Montilivi,” the report said, with Ajax rejoining the race.
Girona’s financial demands and significant competition could work against Ajax, but the club is again back in the running.
“Now, the Amsterdam club is back in the running, and the bidding is starting to attract more options,” the report said, also recalling bids from the English market from Hull City and Ipswich Town, which are also keen to sign the Moroccan international player.
Ounahi is one of the key players for not only Girona but also Morocco’s national team, with whom he played in major competitions like the World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
His dribbling and midfield skills have been making the rounds on the internet on several occasions, including during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, when Morocco finished fourth – securing its spot as the only Arab and African country to reach the semifinals.
Mundo Deportivo is among the reports that emphasized his big role for Morocco, describing him as the “first Girona player to score in a World Cup final,” further increasing the profile of a footballer with numerous skills.
The news outlet also did not rule out Girona letting him go, as this would enable it to generate revenue and “free up a significant salary slot” to strengthen the team.
But will Girona regret swapping a salary with one of its most key players?
