Morocco’s Consumer Price Index Falls 1% in July 2026

Marrakech recorded the sharpest monthly drop among the cities covered, with consumer prices falling 1.7% in July.

Morocco’s Consumer Price Index Falls 1% in July 2026

Casablanca – Morocco’s Consumer Price Index fell 1% in July compared with June, according to a note from the High Commission for Planning (HCP). The decline resulted from a 1.9% drop in food prices and a 0.3% decrease in non-food prices.

Food prices recorded their largest declines in vegetables, down 7.6%, followed by fish and seafood at 3.9%, fruit at 3.7%, meat at 1.2%, and milk, cheese and eggs at 0.3%. Prices increased by 0.3% for mineral waters, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices, and 0.2% for coffee, tea and cocoa. Fuel prices fell 4.9%, making them the main source of the decline among non-food products.

The detailed monthly figures show clothing and footwear down 0.2%, housing, water, electricity and fuels up 0.1%, and household goods up 0.1%. Health, leisure and culture, and education were unchanged. Communication rose 0.1%, while miscellaneous goods and services fell 0.2% and restaurants and hotels rose 0.6%.

The monthly decline was recorded in most cities. Safi followed Marrakech with a 1.4% drop, while Guelmim fell 1.3% and Tangier 1.1%. Casablanca, Rabat and Meknes each recorded a 1% decline. Prices fell 0.9% in Agadir, Settat and Beni-Mellal, 0.8% in Fez and Oujda, 0.7% in Tetouan, 0.6% in Al Hoceima, 0.5% in Dakhla and 0.3% in Errachidia. Laayoune was unchanged, while Kenitra rose 0.1%.

Compared with July 2025, the CPI declined by 0.6% in July 2026. Food prices fell 3.7% over the year, while non-food prices rose 1.9%. Communication prices dropped 0.2%, while transport prices increased 4.1%.

The HCP data also shows the overall CPI rose 0.3% during the first seven months of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025. Food prices declined 1.4%, while non-food prices increased 1.6%. Transport rose 3.2%, restaurants and hotels 2.2%, education 2.1%, and miscellaneous goods and services 3.4%. Communication fell 0.3%.

The underlying inflation indicator, which excludes volatile-price products and publicly administered tariffs, fell 0.1% from June and 0.1% compared with July 2025.
