Casablanca – Moroccan coach Badou Zaki has set his sights on taking Jordan into the final stages of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup, outlining his ambitions after officially taking charge of the national team.
Zaki was presented as Jordan’s new head coach today at the headquarters of the Jordan Football Association in Amman, where he discussed his plans for the team and the challenges ahead.
The Moroccan coach identified building a strong and well-organized side as his immediate priority, while setting a minimum target of reaching the semifinals of the continental tournament.
“Our goal is to prepare a strong and organized team to compete for the Asian Cup title. We will work with great seriousness and determination to be at least in the semifinals,” Zaki said during his press conference.
The 67-year-old noted that his approach will focus on collective work and a detailed assessment of the squad.
He plans to monitor the players’ performances and fitness while identifying the team’s technical and physical needs ahead of upcoming competitions.
Zaki will also look to continue the progress made by fellow Moroccan coaches Hussein Ammouta and Jamal Sellami during their respective spells with Jordan.
Speaking to the Jordan News Agency, Zaki said the national team’s recent progress means reaching the latter stages of major tournaments should no longer be viewed as a surprise.
He noted that the Nashama have established themselves among the leading teams in Asian football, increasing expectations ahead of the next continental challenge.
The 2027 Asian Cup will represent a major test of Zaki’s project as he seeks to build on Jordan’s recent rise and compete for a place among Asia’s top sides.
