Rabat – The US and French missions in Morocco have extended their congratulations to King Mohammed VI as today marks his 63rd birthday, which Morocco celebrates as Youth Day.
In a social media post, the US embassy congratulated Morocco, extending its warmest wishes to King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people.
The post in Arabic also wished Morocco “and its youth continued prosperity every year.”
The French embassy in Morocco extended the same wishes to the Monarch and the Moroccan people on the King’s birthday, coinciding with Youth Day.
Morocco shares strong ties with both France and the US, which form part of a long and growing list of countries that back Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its southern provinces.
The US recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces in December 2020, furthering a new, strong partnership and cooperation between the two countries.
The recognition also built more momentum in bilateral ties with several diplomatic moves – further emphasizing the strength of ties between the two countries.
One of the moves is Morocco’s King Mohammed VI’s decision to name the Tiznit-Dakhla expressway after US President Donald Trump.
Both countries see the decision as a reflection of the strong balance and emphasize their determination to continue strengthening and reinforcing relations.
France also shares the US position on Western Sahara, recognizing Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces in 2024.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced the decision in a formal letter to King Mohammed VI on July 30, stating that the present and future of the region fall within Moroccan sovereignty.
The decision followed a state visit by Macron in October of the same year, reaffirming France’s position and pledging French investments in the region, with France’s Development Agency (AFD) committing to invest €150 million in Morocco’s southern provinces.
France also continues to emphasize Morocco’s position as a leading trading partner and cultural ally on the African continent, with Paris considering Rabat a stable and strong partner in security and migration management.
