Rabat- Manchester City are considering making a late move for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez before the transfer deadline, despite missing Chelsea’s August 14 deadline to submit a bid, according to Sky Sport.
Fernandez, who joined Chelsea from Benfica for a British-record £107 million in 2023, played in Chelsea’s opening Premier League fixture against Fulham this season. The Blues value the 25-year-old at around £120m, meaning City could have to make a bid exceeding the £117 million Chelsea paid for Morgan Rogers this summer.
City are rebuilding their midfield following the departures of Rodri to Barcelona for £65.4 million, Tijjani Reijnders to Al Qadsiah for £51 million and Bernardo Silva, who was released. Nico Gonzalez is also reportedly set to join Newcastle for £50 million.
Pep Guardiola’s side have already strengthened their midfield by signing Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for £116 million and Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi for £86 million on Wednesday.
Fernandez remains a top target for Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca’s former club, with Maresca holding a strong interest in the Argentine midfielder, having previously worked with him at Chelsea. Fernandez still has six years remaining on his contract.
The midfielder was suspended by Chelsea for two matches towards the end of last season after questioning his future while on international duty. His comments came amid reported interest from Real Madrid, although the Spanish giants ruled out a move for him in early July.
