Rabat – The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has officially extended national team coach Luis de la Fuente’s contract until 2032, rewarding the manager following Spain’s triumph at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The federation announced on Monday that its board of directors had unanimously approved the agreement during a meeting at its headquarters in Las Rozas, Madrid.
De la Fuente’s previous contract was due to expire in 2028. The new agreement extends his tenure by four years and ensures continuity through Spain’s upcoming major international competitions.
Federation president Rafael Louzán explained that the decision reflected confidence in the coach and his long-term sporting project.
“We are looking for a project based on stability and confidence,” Louzán said in the federation’s official statement.
He also described De la Fuente as Spain’s most decorated national team coach, pointing to his achievements and longstanding association with the federation.
De la Fuente to lead Spain into 2030 World Cup
The extension will keep De la Fuente in charge for the 2028 European Championship and the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco, Spain and Portugal will jointly host, with three centenary matches taking place in South America.
His contract will also cover Euro 2032, scheduled to take place in Italy and Turkiye.
De la Fuente took charge of Spain’s senior national team in December 2022, replacing Luis Enrique following the country’s elimination by Morocco in the round of 16 of the Qatar World Cup.
Since then, he has guided La Roja to three major international titles.
Spain won the UEFA Nations League in 2023 before securing the European Championship in 2024. De la Fuente completed the sequence with the 2026 World Cup title, defeating Argentina 1-0 in the final on July 19.
Spain prepare for Nations League campaign
The federation confirmed that the new agreement forms part of its preparations for the next international cycle, beginning with the UEFA Nations League.
Spain will face England, Croatia and the Czech Republic during their opening fixtures in September and October.
The contract extension also provides clarity ahead of the 2030 World Cup, when Spain will seek to defend their title on home soil and in neighboring Morocco and Portugal.
De la Fuente will now begin his next international campaign with his future secured through the end of Euro 2032.
