Casablanca -Morocco and Egypt discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation during a meeting between Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty in New York today.
The talks took place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly and focused on relations between Rabat and Cairo and ways to further develop them. The two ministers also discussed continued coordination and consultation on regional and international issues of common interest, particularly those concerning Africa and the Arab world.
Bourita and Abdelatty held the meeting in line with the broader push by Morocco and Egypt to strengthen cooperation across several sectors.
The latest meeting follows a series of high-level contacts between the two countries this year. In April, Morocco and Egypt held the first session of their Coordination and Monitoring Committee in Cairo, co-chaired by Moroccan Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch and Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly. The committee aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation and examine new areas of partnership.

The April meeting also produced several agreements and memoranda covering areas including industry, youth and culture. The two governments also discussed measures to expand economic cooperation, increase trade and facilitate investment flows in both directions. Morocco and Egypt expressed their intention to establish industrial partnerships and make greater use of the economic expertise and resources available in both countries.
The coordination mechanism marked a new institutional framework for following up on bilateral cooperation. Egyptian authorities described it as a high-level mechanism intended to strengthen cooperation and support a broader strategic partnership, while Moroccan authorities said the committee would help examine cooperation prospects across several fields.
The two countries have also continued diplomatic coordination. During the April meetings in Cairo, Bourita and Abdelatty discussed the state of bilateral political, economic and trade relations and expressed their shared commitment to advancing cooperation in different areas.
Tuesday’s meeting in New York builds on that recent diplomatic activity as Morocco and Egypt continue consultations on bilateral relations and wider regional and international matters.
