Casablanca– Paris Saint-Germain has reiterated its support for Achraf Hakimi after France’s Court of Cassation confirmed the Moroccan defender’s referral to trial over rape allegations dating back to 2023.
In a statement sent to Le Parisien on Wednesday, the French club said Hakimi has consistently denied the allegations and stressed that he remains presumed innocent.
“Achraf Hakimi has always firmly contested the facts of which he is accused and remains presumed innocent to this day,” the club said, adding that it is committed to maintaining a calm and respectful working environment for the player in line with fundamental legal principles.
PSG also sought to distinguish its support for Hakimi from its position on sexual violence, reaffirming its commitment to combating all forms of violence, particularly sexual violence.
The club’s statement came hours after the Court of Cassation confirmed Hakimi’s referral to trial.
The decision follows a June ruling by the Versailles Court of Appeal, which upheld his referral to a departmental criminal court. Hakimi subsequently challenged that decision before the Court of Cassation.
The allegations concern events reported in February 2023. Hakimi has denied the accusations since the beginning of the case. He was formally placed under investigation shortly after the alleged incident.
The Court of Cassation decision represents the latest development in the judicial process after Hakimi exhausted his appeal before France’s highest court for criminal and civil matters. His case will now proceed to trial.
Hakimi, who remains a key player for both Paris Saint-Germain and Morocco, has continued his football career throughout the legal proceedings.
Under French law, Hakimi remains presumed innocent unless and until a final court judgment establishes his guilt.
