Rabat – Moroccan authorities have arrested a police officer in Marrakech after a woman accused him of raping her while he allegedly presented himself as a police officer.
The Marrakech Judicial Police launched a judicial investigation on Monday, under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, after the woman filed a complaint over the alleged rape.
According to preliminary information, investigators identified the suspect, a police officer with the rank of brigadier, and arrested him as part of the inquiry.
The complainant told authorities that she had been sexually assaulted by a man who claimed to be a police officer after he encountered her with another person.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigators examine the circumstances of the case and seek to establish the facts behind the allegations.
The public prosecutor’s office will oversee the proceedings as authorities determine whether criminal charges are warranted.
The case has also prompted an internal disciplinary measure. National Security Directorate (DGSN) Director General Abdellatif Hammouchi ordered the officer’s temporary suspension from duty pending the outcome of the judicial investigation.
The DGSN said the administration may take further disciplinary action under the legal framework that governs national security personnel once the judicial process clarifies the facts of the case.
