Rabat – FC Barcelona released an official statement on Thursday following UEFA’s confirmation that it had received Negreira case documentation from Real Madrid.
The Catalan side stressed that European football’s governing body has not initiated any new disciplinary proceedings against the club.
“UEFA has not opened any new proceedings against FC Barcelona. The proceedings were initiated in 2023, with the appointment of two investigators who have since carried out the action they deemed appropriate,” the club stated.
FC Barcelona maintains that it has fully cooperated with European football’s governing body throughout the inquiry, fulfilling every request made by investigators.
The Catalan club further clarified that UEFA has not reopened any disciplinary proceedings against them, pointing out that the initial investigation into the Negreira case was never officially closed in the first place.
“The Club has always complied with all their requests. These proceedings have not been reopened because they have never been closed,” they added.
UEFA acknowledged receiving documentation from Real Madrid regarding the Negreira case, confirming that ethics and disciplinary inspectors will review the materials.
According to the governing body, this assessment will take place within the scope of the existing, ongoing investigation rather than triggering a separate inquiry.
“It is up to the investigators to determine what action, if any, they consider appropriate regarding this documentation. As of today, they have not made any new requests to FC Barcelona nor have they forwarded Real Madrid’s complaint to the Club,” Barcelona explained.
To reinforce its position, the Catalan club pointed out that European football’s governing body has consistently granted the club its UEFA license without any objections throughout the entire inquiry.
The club stressed that it has continued to compete in European tournaments without interruption, using this to illustrate that UEFA has raised no fundamental barriers to its ongoing participation.
“FC Barcelona reiterates its full cooperation with the competent authorities and calls for rigour and accuracy in the reporting of this procedure,” Barca concluded.
