Rabat – Juventus have renewed their interest in Morocco international Brahim Diaz after failing to convince the Real Madrid attacker to move to Turin during the summer transfer window.
Italian newspaper Tuttosport reported on Thursday that Diaz remains one of Juventus’ leading targets for the future as the club assesses potential additions to its midfield and attacking options.
Juventus pursued the 27-year-old during the summer and had been prepared to make a significant effort to secure his signature. Tuttosport repeatedly described Diaz as an important target for head coach Luciano Spalletti, who views the Moroccan as capable of operating in several positions behind the striker.
Mundo Deportivo reported that Juventus even sought to arrange talks with Real Madrid through Diaz’s representative, but the player rejected the possibility of leaving the Spanish capital and chose to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Renewal with Real Madrid still pending
Diaz’s current contract is reported to run until June 2027, creating uncertainty over his longer-term future despite his preference to stay with Real Madrid.
Spanish reports have said Diaz and Madrid have an agreement to extend his contract until 2030, but the new deal has yet to be officially announced. AS reported earlier this year that the renewal had already been agreed and was awaiting formal confirmation.
Tuttosport, however, reported this week that the proposed extension has been awaiting a signature for almost a year, a situation Juventus appear willing to monitor closely.
The Italian newspaper also listed Napoli midfielder Stanislav Lobotka and Manchester City’s Mateo Kovacic among Juventus’ potential targets, but described Diaz as the most valuable option with an eye toward the future.
No negotiations between Juventus and Real Madrid over a new transfer have been reported at this stage, and Diaz has not indicated that he wants to leave the Spanish club.
The Moroccan international, meanwhile, continues to play an important role for his national team. He scored Morocco’s opening goal in Tuesday’s 2-0 victory over Lesotho in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with Azzedine Ounahi adding the second.
Juventus’ prospects of reviving their pursuit could therefore depend heavily on whether Diaz formally signs the reported extension with Real Madrid before his current contract moves closer to its final months.
