Marrakech – Viamericas, a US-based money transfer company, has expanded its payment network across Morocco and Ethiopia, widening the options available to recipients in both markets.

In Morocco, customers can now receive funds through cash pickup and mobile wallet services. In Ethiopia, the expanded network covers bank deposits and cash pickup. The options vary by destination country, giving families more ways to access money sent from abroad.

In a press statement released on Tuesday, Paul Dwyer, CEO and co-founder of Viamericas, tied the move to the company’s broader cross-border strategy. He described it as a way to serve families with “reliable, flexible ways to send and receive money.”

According to Dwyer, with demand for such transfers climbing, the firm aims to keep “expanding access to the services customers rely on” without compromising the secure experience its customers expect.

Founded in 1999 and headquartered in Coral Gables, Florida, Viamericas operates thousands of agent locations in the United States. Through its network, individuals can send money to more than 285,000 locations across 95 countries. The company also runs operational centers in Mexico, Colombia, and the Philippines, with a West Coast office in Los Angeles.

The expansion lands as remittances carry growing weight in Morocco’s economy. Transfers from Moroccans living abroad reached MAD 89.215 billion ($8.92 billion) at the end of August 2026, up from MAD 81.846 billion ($8.18 billion) a year earlier, according to the Office des Changes. That marks a 9% increase year-on-year.

The upward trend follows a strong 2025. Over the full year, remittances from the diaspora topped MAD 122 billion ($12.2 billion), compared with MAD 118.9 billion ($11.89 billion) in 2024, a rise of 2.6%.

For Morocco, these inflows remain a steady source of foreign currency and household income. Viamericas’ entry adds mobile wallet payouts to the cash channels already available to recipients in the kingdom, pointing to a gradual move toward digital collection.
