Rabat – The Central Disciplinary Committee of the National Professional Football League has suspended Ittihad Tanger goalkeeper Badreddine Abyir for three matches following an incident involving the penalty spot during his team’s match against Moghreb Tetouan.
The committee also fined the goalkeeper MAD 10,000 over the incident, according to the disciplinary decisions issued on October 6.
Abyir was sanctioned after he was reportedly seen attempting to damage the penalty spot shortly before a Moghreb Tetouan player was due to take a penalty in the final stages of the match.
The incident occurred during the second round of Morocco’s professional league at the Grand Stadium of Tangier.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with the penalty incident taking place late in the game.
Ittihad Tanger also sanctioned
The disciplinary committee also issued a warning to Ittihad Tanger over the incident.
The club was ordered to repair the damage caused to the pitch following the goalkeeper’s actions.
The decision adds to the disciplinary measures taken after the second-round fixture, which saw both teams share the points.
The suspension means Abyir will be unavailable for Ittihad Tanger’s next three matches in the competition, while the MAD 10,000 fine will also apply to the goalkeeper.
The incident highlights the disciplinary consequences players and clubs can face for actions that affect the condition of the playing surface during official matches.
Ittihad Tanger will now have to deal with the goalkeeper’s absence in the coming fixtures, while also taking responsibility for restoring the affected area of the pitch.
