Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication has launched ander.ma, a digital platform dedicated to documenting, tracing and verifying the originality and authenticity of artworks.
The platform follows working sessions held in 2024 and 2025 at the Public Prosecutor’s Office, with the participation of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, the National Foundation of Museums, the Ministry of Justice, the General Secretariat of the Government, the High Council of the Judicial Power, art professionals and other partner institutions.
The initiative forms part of efforts to support the digital transformation of the cultural sector and protect artistic creation, according to the ministry.
Ander.ma relies directly on visual artists to build a documentary record of their creations. Artists can upload photographs of their works, including paintings, sculptures, installations and digital creations.
The platform also allows artists to add supporting documents linked to their works. These can include exhibition catalogues, posters, invitations and press articles. The information is then used to build a reference database that can be consulted for cross-checking during transactions, exhibitions and the issuance of certificates of authenticity.
By linking artworks to photographs and references certified by their creators, ander.ma provides galleries, auction houses and other art professionals with a tool for checking works during sales, exhibitions and inheritance proceedings, the ministry said.
The platform also includes an alert and prevention system for suspected, falsified or counterfeit works. When such works are reported, the system can trigger a review based on the available archives.
The ministry stressed that ander.ma serves as a prevention and verification tool and does not replace the scientific, technical or legal expertise required to establish the authenticity of an artwork.
The platform operates as an evolving database, with its effectiveness expected to grow through continued contributions from artists. The ministry said the initiative forms part of its efforts to modernize its tools and strengthen the legal framework surrounding copyright.
The ministry said the platform is intended to help protect creators and rights holders while supporting greater transparency in Morocco’s art market.
