Tan-Tan – Police in Casablanca seized a boat, a marine engine, and other equipment suspected of being used to organize illegal migration operations, Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said Thursday.
The operation took place in the early hours of Thursday in the Hay Hassani security district. Police seized a utility vehicle with foreign license plates after its drivers abandoned it when they were caught preparing an illegal migration operation.
A search of the vehicle uncovered an inflatable boat, a marine engine, several wooden boards, several documents, and two mobile phones. Investigators suspect the phones contain digital evidence linked to the criminal activity.
The judicial police in Casablanca have launched an investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to identify the people involved and determine whether the suspected network has other members or connections.
Authorities are also working to arrest all those suspected of involvement in the operation.
The case comes as Morocco continues efforts to combat criminal networks involved in illegal migration and human trafficking, according to the DGSN.
