Rabat – A planned 20-megawatt data center near Casablanca has entered its early design phase as Morocco advances plans to develop large-scale infrastructure dedicated to artificial intelligence.
Nexus Core Systems has appointed UK-headquartered FiveNines Group to oversee the facility’s development, which will be purpose-designed for high-density AI computing.
According to London Construction Magazine, the data center will use the latest available semiconductors and Nvidia’s Vera Rubin NVL72 Cloud Partner Reference architecture. It will form part of the broader Nexus AI Factory platform, which is planned to reach a total capacity of 180 MW and operate entirely on renewable energy.
FiveNines will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for design management, technical standards, consultant coordination, construction planning and procurement strategy.
The company’s initial work includes defining project requirements, conducting feasibility studies and developing the concept design. The objective is to prepare a coordinated package for engagement with authorities and future permit applications.
The project team will work with Zutari as the lead design consultant, R&B MEP as the mechanical, electrical and plumbing specialist, and Fonto Energy as the substation delivery partner.
“We are delighted to partner with Nexus Core Systems in order to construct an advanced data centre in North Africa,” FiveNines Group CEO Gerry Curran said. “This project will bring together our international data centre expertise with Moroccan architects, engineers, technical advisers, and relevant authorities.”
Bastian Remmlinger, Head of Infrastructure at Nexus Core Systems, said the FiveNines team had supported the company in shaping the design and delivery approach for the Moroccan facility.
The Nexus AI Factory was announced in April 2026 during GITEX Africa Morocco in Marrakech, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Moroccan authorities.
The wider platform is intended to create an infrastructure hub dedicated to AI, with a target capacity of 180 MW powered entirely by renewable energy.
The development comes as Morocco seeks to strengthen its position as a regional hub for artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure.
FiveNines Group, which is headquartered in the UK, specializes in data centers and other mission-critical infrastructure projects. The company is also active across Europe and other international markets.
