Rabat – Morocco’s House of Representatives will hold a plenary session on Tuesday to elect its president, according to a statement from the provisional president of the chamber’s bureau.
The session is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. and will take place in accordance with Article 62 of Morocco’s Constitution and Article 48 of the House of Representatives’ Rules of Procedure.
The vote comes as Morocco’s political parties continue negotiations to form a new government following the September 23 legislative elections.
The Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) won the most seats, securing 97 of the House of Representatives’ 395 seats, followed by the National Rally of Independents (RNI) with 66 and the Istiqlal Party with 65.
King Mohammed VI appointed PAM’s Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri as head of government on September 29, tasking her with forming the new administration. El Mansouri has yet to finalize the formation of the governing coalition and has been holding consultations with parties represented in Parliament.
PAM’s National Council authorized her to negotiate the coalition’s composition, with discussions covering potential alliances with parties including Istiqlal, RNI and the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP).

While government formation remains under discussion, the House of Representatives is also moving to establish its own leadership for the new legislative term.
Article 62 of the Constitution sets out the framework for electing the presidents and members of the bureaux of both parliamentary chambers, while Article 48 of the House’s Rules of Procedure governs the relevant internal procedures.
The president of the House of Representatives oversees parliamentary proceedings, maintains order during debates and represents the chamber in its institutional relations. The House is also responsible for examining draft laws, questioning government officials and monitoring public policy through parliamentary mechanisms.
