Rabat – Portuguese coach Pablo Sergio has reportedly rejected Wydad Athletic Club’s proposal to terminate his contract by mutual agreement, leaving the Casablanca-based club facing a potential financial dispute over his departure.
According to a report published by Radio Mars, negotiations between Wydad officials and the Portuguese manager have reached a deadlock after Sergio refused the club’s proposed amicable settlement.
The report indicates that communication between the two parties has so far taken place exclusively through the coach’s agent. No direct meeting involving Sergio and Wydad’s management has been scheduled to reach a final decision regarding his future.
The Portuguese manager reportedly considers the club’s efforts to end his contract premature, arguing that three matches in charge are insufficient to assess his technical abilities or the progress of his sporting project.
Sergio believes that such a short period does not provide a fair basis for evaluating his work, particularly when it comes to implementing his tactical approach and improving the team’s performances.
His position has complicated Wydad’s attempts to negotiate a separation without additional financial consequences.
Financial compensation complicates negotiations
Wydad’s management now faces a difficult decision regarding the coach’s future, particularly because of the financial obligations associated with terminating his contract unilaterally.
According to the same source, the terms of Sergio’s agreement could require the Moroccan club to pay compensation equivalent to approximately two months of his salary if it decides to dismiss him without reaching a mutual settlement.
The club is reportedly seeking to avoid this scenario, which would create additional financial obligations.
The disagreement has therefore left both parties in a difficult position. While Wydad appears interested in ending the partnership, Sergio remains unwilling to accept an early departure under the proposed conditions.
The situation also raises questions about the club’s immediate technical direction, with uncertainty surrounding the Portuguese coach’s future.
For now, no final agreement has been reported, and negotiations remain unresolved.
Wydad must either find common ground with Sergio or consider the financial consequences of terminating his contract without his consent.
