Casablanca – Cosumar Group has launched its 2026/2027 agricultural campaign, with plans to cultivate 60,000 hectares of sugar beet and establish 3,000 hectares of new sugarcane plantations across five agricultural regions, the company announced Tuesday.
The program covers the Doukkala, Tadla, Moulouya, Gharb and Loukkos regions. Sugarcane planting began on August 20, while sugar beet sowing started on September 15, according to a company statement.
Doukkala will account for 18,500 hectares of sugar beet, followed by Tadla with 15,500 hectares, Gharb with 15,000 hectares, Loukkos with 6,000 hectares and Moulouya with 5,000 hectares. The new sugarcane plantations will cover 2,000 hectares in Gharb and 1,000 hectares in Loukkos.
Cosumar estimates that the cultivation program will generate more than MAD 3 billion ($307.69 million) in economic benefits for the regions concerned, supporting agricultural activity, value creation and farmers’ incomes.
The group said it has secured agricultural inputs, including seeds, fertilizers and crop protection products, for the campaign. It is also providing advance financing worth around MAD 800 million ($82.05 million) to cover these supplies.
Under its agricultural aggregation model, Cosumar signs contracts with partner farmers and supports them throughout the growing cycle, from the supply of inputs to the delivery of crops to its factories.
More than 120 agricultural advisers provide technical assistance in the field, covering sowing, irrigation, weed control and phytosanitary treatments. Farmers also have access to drones for treating weeds, diseases and pests, alongside the ATTAISSIR digital platform, smart irrigation systems and more targeted fertilization methods.

Mechanization covers the entire process, from sowing to harvesting. Cosumar has allocated MAD 120 million ($12.31 million) this year to renew the agricultural machinery used for sugar crops.
A further MAD 270 million ($27.70 million) will go toward technological modernization and upgrading industrial capacity to ensure factories can receive the harvest under suitable conditions.
The company also reported that it produced 240,000 tonnes of white sugar from locally grown sugar beet and sugarcane during the 2025/2026 campaign, despite flooding in the Gharb and Loukkos agricultural regions. Average yields reached 55 tonnes per hectare for sugar beet and 72 tonnes per hectare for sugarcane.
During the previous campaign, partner farmers received state financial support of MAD 70 ($7.18) per tonne of sugarcane and MAD 80 ($8.21) per tonne of sugar beet. Fertilizers distributed to sugar growers were subsidized, while farmers affected by flooding in Gharb and Loukkos benefited from the cancellation of their debts for the season.
Cosumar and the state jointly financed these measures, with total funding reaching MAD 425 million ($43.59 million), the company said.
