Agadir – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by possible hail and strong wind gusts in several provinces on Saturday and Sunday, issuing an orange-level weather alert.
The storms could bring rainfall of 20 to 30 millimeters on Saturday and between 20 and 40 mm on Sunday, according to the DGM’s weather warning.
On Saturday, thunderstorms are expected from 2 p.m. until midnight in Azilal, Oujda-Angad, Jerada, Taourirt, Guercif, Beni Mellal and Taza.
The weather conditions could persist into Sunday, when the DGM expects thunderstorms in a wider group of provinces. The warning will cover Zagora, Figuig, Azilal, Errachidia, Midelt, Boulemane, Chefchaouen, Fahs-Anjra, Mdiq-Fnideq, Tinghir, Al Haouz and Tetouan.
The forecast places Sunday’s warning period between 10 a.m. and midnight, with expected rainfall ranging from 20 to 40 mm. The DGM also warned of possible hail and wind gusts accompanying the storms.
The orange vigilance level signals potentially hazardous weather conditions that may affect daily activities, particularly in areas exposed to intense rainfall, hail and strong winds.
Residents in the affected provinces should follow official weather updates and take precautions during the alert periods. Drivers should also remain cautious in areas experiencing heavy rainfall, as wet roads and reduced visibility can make travel more difficult.
The DGM’s warning covers specific periods on both days, with the forecast indicating that several provinces could experience thunderstorms through Saturday evening and Sunday night.
