Casablanca – The Directorate of Hydraulic Development has launched 11 public tenders for dam construction projects worth more than MAD 339 million ($34.77 million). The notices, published on October 15, cover several provinces and set bid deadlines between November 9 and November 16.
The tender list includes the Hyara Dam in Zagora, the Ouled Sidi Daoud Dam in Rehamna, the Ras Kraa Dam in Figuig and the Issa Ben Amar Dam in Taourirt. Other projects concern the Aguelmame Dam, also known as Sidi Rabeh Ettolba, in Taourirt, and the Aourir Dam in Taroudant.
The remaining tenders cover the Srirou Dam in Khouribga, the Taghzout Dam in Chefchaouen, the Akdim Dam in Boulemane, and the Dar Ettnia and Sidi Said dams in Rehamna.
The published notices show that the projects are spread across different parts of the country, from southeastern provinces such as Zagora to northern areas such as Chefchaouen.
Dam tenders come amid continued investment in water infrastructure
The new tenders come as Morocco continues to expand its water infrastructure following several years of drought. The Ministry of Equipment and Water has also reported improvements in reservoir levels this year, driven by rainfall and snowfall earlier in the year.
According to the ministry’s official water information platform, Maa Dialna, the national reservoir filling rate stood at 67.1% in October, following a peak of 76.19% on May 10. The platform reported on October 15 that dam reserves had remained relatively stable despite heat waves, while groundwater conditions had deteriorated in some areas.
Recent rainfall has also replenished several reservoirs. On October 12, the platform reported water inflows of 5.84 million cubic meters at the Mohammed V Dam in the Oriental region, bringing its filling rate to 41.4%.

The Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah Dam near Rabat received around 5.39 million cubic meters, lifting its filling rate to 70.7%. The Al Massira Dam in Settat province recorded inflows of 3.73 million cubic meters, with its filling rate reaching 40.2%.
These figures reflect differences between reservoirs and regions, even after the broader improvement in water availability this year.
Morocco has also continued work on larger water infrastructure projects. On October 16, Maa Dialna reported that construction and upgrading works were continuing at 14 large dams, with their combined storage capacity expected to exceed five billion cubic meters.
The 11 newly announced tenders add another group of construction projects to the country’s water infrastructure program.
