Agadir – Morocco is expanding its defense cooperation with Liberia through military equipment deliveries and a training program for around 140 Liberian soldiers, as Rabat and Monrovia strengthen their bilateral military ties.
A Moroccan C-130 transport aircraft arrived at Roberts International Airport near Monrovia on October 19, carrying the first shipment of military vehicles and logistical supplies for the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), according to The Liberian Investigator.
The delivery is part of a broader cooperation program that includes specialized commando training for Liberian troops in Morocco. Two flights are scheduled between October 19 and 22 to transport equipment and facilitate the soldiers’ travel, the report said.
The initiative follows a military cooperation agreement that Morocco and Liberia signed in Rabat in 2025, establishing a framework for training, technical assistance, and military healthcare cooperation.
Morocco expands military partnership with Liberia
The latest developments build on efforts by the two countries to translate their defense agreement into practical cooperation.
In September, Armed Forces of Liberia Chief of Staff Major General Davidson Fayiah Forleh visited Morocco and met with Royal Armed Forces (FAR) Inspector General General Mohammed Berrid.
The discussions addressed military training, technical support, and the implementation of joint programs. The two sides also signed a memorandum of understanding on military support and capacity-building.
Partnership extends beyond ground forces
The two countries are also exploring cooperation in aviation and maritime security.
Morocco is supporting Liberia’s efforts to develop a military air wing, with cooperation covering training for pilots and technical personnel.
In the maritime sector, discussions between Liberian military representatives and the Royal Moroccan Navy have focused on strengthening the Liberia Coast Guard’s capabilities, including maritime surveillance and the protection of territorial waters.
Military healthcare represents another area of cooperation. The partnership includes exchanges involving medical personnel, specialized treatment, and training opportunities through Morocco’s Mohammed V Military Hospital in Rabat.
