Rabat – Morocco and Liberia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen and boost security cooperation.

Abdellatif Hammouchi, the General Directorate of National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN-DGST), signed the MoU with the Inspector General of the National Police of the Republic of Liberia, Gregory Coleman.

The two security leaders signed the agreement at the venue hosting the 7th Open Days of the National Security in Rabat. The initiative is a DGSN initiative aimed at improving openness to detail its mission to the public. The event, which coincides with the 70th anniversary of the DGSN creation, will run until May 22.

The cooperation agreement is part of both countries’ commitment to boost ties of friendship and operational partnership, reflecting their conviction that security cooperation is a fundamental pillar for solidarity and joint security, DGSN said in a statement.

The partnership aims to establish a framework for police cooperation, enabling the fight against all forms of transnational crime, including terrorism and violent extremism.

The agreement will cover information exchange, technical assistance, operational coordination and capacity building for security personnel, broadening the scope of police collaboration between the two countries to include efforts and action plans in the fields of migration and border policing.

It also covers forensic and technical police work, police training, and the development of training methods to strengthen policing skills.

The agreement is in line with DGSN’s commitment to engaging with regional and international partners to reinforce security cooperation in support of the South-South approach and ensuring regional stability.

Liberia and Morocco share good diplomatic ties, with both countries determined to boost cooperation in a wide range of strategic areas, including agriculture.

Liberia is also among the countries that support Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its southern provinces in Western Sahara.
