Rabat – FIFA officially kicked off the bidding process for the US and Puerto Rican media rights to the 2030 Men’s World Cup.
The world football governing body opened invitations to tender on Thursday, allowing broadcasting networks and digital streaming platforms the chance to secure coverage for the 2030 tournament, along with an option to extend their broadcast rights through the 2034 edition.
FIFA signaled a willingness to embrace modern broadcasting models, stressing in an official statement that it welcomes creative distribution strategies designed to maximize viewer reach.
“FIFA has launched the invitation to tender (ITT) for media rights to the FIFA World Cup 2030 in the United States and Puerto Rico, with an option for interested parties to also secure the FIFA World Cup 2034,” the governing body stated.
Interested networks and digital platforms face a tight window to finalize their proposals, with formal bid submissions due by November 19.
For the 2026 World Cup co-hosted by North American neighbors United States, Canada, and Mexico, Fox held the exclusive English-language broadcast package in the USmarket.
Meanwhile, Telemundo served as the official domestic rights holder for Spanish-language coverage of the expanded tournament.
Defending champions Spain will join Portugal and Morocco in co-hosting the 2030 World Cup, a tournament that also features opening-round matches in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay to celebrate the competition’s centenary.
Looking further ahead, Saudi Arabia has been designated as the host nation for the 2034 tournament.
Domestic audience engagement reached unprecedented levels for the 2026 tournament, with FIFA reporting an average per-game US viewership of 13.5 million across linear networks and streaming services.
This marks a 166% increase from the viewership figures recorded during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, significantly bolstering the market value of future broadcast rights.
