Rabat – The Party of Authenticity and Modernity (PAM) has sent a letter to Mohamed Yatim on Thursday and distanced itself from the PAM member who accused Yatim of “pedophilia.”

Yatim is an influential member of the General Secretariat of the PJD, who is leading negotiations for the formation of the government.

In the letter, PAM informed Mr Yatim of the suspension of MP Lahcen Bouaarfa, and the freezing of all his activities in the party. The suspension follows the serious accusation of pedophilia leveled against the MP.

PAM has strongly condemned the accusations and decided to suspend the Bouaarfa from all partisan positions. Ilyas El Omari, who signed an official communiqué on the subject, expressed his dismay that political differences could turn into personal invectives and defamation. PAM’s secretary general stressed that whatever the differences may be, they should not exceed the threshold of ethics and respect for political opponents.

Mohamed Yatim was accused of pedophilia by Hassan Bouarfa, elected to PAM from the Goulmima commune, in a video posted on YouTube on March 29. The video, shared by Hespress, sparked the indignation of the association “Touche Pas à Mon Enfant,” who demanded the opening of an investigation against Yatim in a communique.

Mohamed Yatim responded to the accusations of pedophilia made by Bouarfa in a statement published on Thursday on the official website of the PJD. In defense of his “reputation and that of his relatives,” Yatim contradicted his accuser, stating that as a professor of philosophy in high school during the 1980s, most of his students were “adults,” some of them “repeaters.”

He then justified his departure from Beni Mellal with a transfer to Salé, motivated by personal reasons. Mohamed Yatim, considered a serious ministerial candidate in the future government, is calling the accusations a “defamatory attack.” He said he’s hired “several lawyers” to proceed with a lawsuit against Hassan Bouarfa and the press who distributed the video.
