Rabat – The film “Fadma”, directed by Ahmed El Maanouni was selected to open Montreal’s International Festival “Vues d’Afrique” on April 14, said Lamalif production.

The film previously won the Achievement Award at the National Film Festival in Tangier.

Fadma brings together a talented casting around the acclaimed actress Fadela Benmoussa, who shared the spotlight with the artist EKO in his first role on the screen.

This film, produced by Abdelfattah Arrom, narrates the story of Fadma, a Moroccan woman who sacrificed her life in Marrakech to raise her two children: Ahmed (Mouhcine Malzi), who has made a stable life in France and Karim (EKO), an avant-garde artist.

The film then moves to France, where Fadma meets her granddaughter Julie-Aicha (Ines Arrom), a teenager in search of her identity.

“It is a challenge to want to reconnect with the real Moroccan popular cinema, which is entirely dedicated to the entertainment of the public, while maintaining the a good quality in the casting and the script,” said El Maanouni.

“With the producer and co-writer Abdelfattah Arrom we wanted to create a family film that addresses a deeply rooted issue in the Moroccan culture with a humorous touch,” he added.

“Vues d’Afrique” is internationally renowned “as the most prestigious of its kind in North America,” according to Quebec Original.

The festival is a platform to share and discover the real and imaginary aspects of African and Caribbean countries.
