Rabat – Portugal and Morocco have signed two cooperation agreements yesterday focused on the development of renewable energy in Morocco, as reported by See News.
The Portuguguese Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science (INESC TEC) will sign accords with the Moroccan Institute for solar and new energies research IRESEN and the National Applied Sciences School (ENSAK) to integrate renewable energy into the Moroccan electrical systems, according to See News.
The partnership focuses on advanced training where INSEC TEC will share its proficiency on renewable technologies integration for solar sources.
In a statement, INSEC TEC explains the tool to support the supply of electricity allows the analysis of micro networks responsibly for ensuring the supply of electricity, independtly, to remote regions, regardless of whether or not they are connected to the main network, according to Noticias ao Minuto.
“We want to create a model that allows us to conduct renewable energy integration studies, such as solar, photovoltaic, or win in isolated networks to assist in the operational management of the network,” explains INESC TEC administrator, Joao Pecas Lopes, who will attend in the project, as reported by Noticias ao Minuto.
The statement also says they efficient use of microgrids reduces CO2 emissions and reduces the total cost of the electrical system, “since the safe integration of renewable energy sources can significantly reduce the costs associated with fossil fuels that are typically on the basis of operation of these networks,” as reported by Noticias ao Minuto.
INESC TEC is already working to install the most modern smart grid laboratory in Africa as part of a project with Morocco named SECRETS (Sustainable Energy Cluster Realised Through Smart Grids).
