Rabat – Former Argentina soccer legend, Diego Armando Maradona, has arrived this Wednesday afternoon in Marrakech in order to participate in a “gala match” celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Morocco’s Green March.

The Argentinean superstar was received this afternoon by Karim Blaq, the agent in charge of the players who will participate in the match.

Marodona is expected to stay in Marrakech until Friday when he will fly to Laâyoune, where the gala match is scheduled to take place. He will leave Morocco in the evening immediately after the end of the match.

A previous report by daily Assabah newspaper said Marodona will donate his time and image and participate in the event free of charge.

The match will witness the participation of retired Moroccan soccer stars who participated in the World Cup 1986, 1994 and 1998, as well as other international former players, such as Italy’s Alessandro Altobelli and Francesco Toldo, Brazil’s Gilberto Silva and Edison as well as Uruguayan Daniel Fonseca.

The match will also feature a number of African legends such as Ghanaian Abide Pele, Liberia’s George Weah and Egyptian player Mohamed Aboutrika.
