Rabat – Italian National Couturier Francesco Smalto died at the age of 87. Reports say his body was found on Sunday in his room at Mamounia Hotel in Marrakesh, Morocco.

Francesco Smalto died in his sleep at the Mamounia Hotel, of natural causes, according to the Moroccan News Agency MAP.

Italy’s famous designer was known of his love for Morocco, which was his second home. He constantly visited the country over the last few decades and was Morocco’s late king Hassan II, preferred tailor.

Francesco Smalto was born in the Italian province. In 1960s, he founded the fashion house of Francesco Smalto, which is specialized in making custom clothing.
