Rabat – Hezbollah’s deputy chief, Naim Qassem, delivered an address today expressing the group’s commitment to resistance and readiness for escalating confrontations with Israel. Qassem’s remarks come following the killing of the group’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, in Israeli strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs last Friday.
Qassem spoke toHezbollah’s preparedness for a potential ground incursion by Israeli forces, declaring, “We are quite ready if the Israelis wanted ground incursion. The resistance forces are ready for that.” He assured followers that the “Israeli enemy will not achieve its goals.”
Hezbollah’s operations, Qassem noted, have continued at an intensified pace since Nasrallah’s death. “We have hit Israeli targets 150 kilometers within Israeli territory,” he added, reinforcing the group’s capability to launch retaliatory strikes.
In addition, Qassem said Hezbollah is ready to engage in a long war with Israel if necessary as he reiterated the group’s commitment to its core objectives, including supporting Gaza and protecting Lebanon from external threats.
In the wake of Nasrallah’s death, Qassem announced, “We will choose the Secretary General for Hezbollah sooner rather than later, according to the mechanism that we have in place.”
He also dismissed reports claiming that 20 Hezbollah members were killed, clarifying that Nasrallah was killed alongside only four others.
As Qassem concluded his message, he reaffirmed Hezbollah’s resolve: “We will win, just as we won in our confrontation with Israel in 2006.”
Israeli occupation forces have intensified their attacks on Lebanon, killing over 700 people and displacing hundreds of thousands. The attacks were mainly concentrated in southern Lebanon, targeting residential areas under the regularly used excuse of Hezbollah presence in the target region. Other airstrikes targeted different parts of Lebanon, including southern Beirut.
Amid fear of an imminent Israeli ground incursion, Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati called for an immediate ceasefire while announcing the government’s readiness to deploy the army to southern Lebanon.
