Rabat — Morocco’s head coach for the national futsal team, Hicham Dguig, has emphasized that the Atlas Lions must adopt a fighting spirit in today’s match against Brazil, the top futsal squad in the world.

On Saturday, Dguig stressed that the Atlas Lions need more than just technical skills to win the game, noting that a fighting spirit on the field, solid defensive organization, and confidence are key in today’s match.

“The match against Brazil is decisive, and we aim to make history with this game. We will do our best to reach the semifinals,” he said.

He also described today’s game as the most exciting game his team will play in the tournament, acknowledging Brazil’s achievement as they are five-time world champions.

Dguig further stressed that Brazil is one of only four teams to have won the World Cup so far.

“They are performing well in this edition,” he added.

Brazil, the first and best team in FIFA’s first-ever futsal ranking, made stellar performances so far, achieving wins over Cuba, Croatia, and Thailand.

They also defeated Costa Rica in the Round of 16.

Dguig also commented on the challenges the Moroccan team are facing, including the absences of key players due to injuries.

“With a full team, the situation would certainly look different,” he said, adding that the Atlas Lions’s former friendly match with Brazil left a good impression thanks to the participation of his full squad.

“Unfortunately we would have showcased more of our skills if we had a complete squad because technical superiority requires physical freshness, which player rotations provide,” he said.
