Employment, one of the most ailing sectors in Morocco, has suffered a series of setbacks that has direct repercussions on society and economy.

The new project of the Moroccan phosphates company OCP ‘Office Chérifien des Phosphate’ laid the groundwork for a new form of cooperation between the private and the public sector in terms of employment.

The Moroccan daily Akhbar Al YAwm reported that the OCP launched last year the operation “OCP Skills”. The organizers could fund 52 projects for small and medium companies in the cities that host the OCP industrial compounds.

The OCP offers 11000 beneficiaries the opportunity to pursue a training delivered by the Vocational Training Office and other institutions namely the institute for Post office and communication, the Mohammedia School for Engineers, the Moroccan school of Bridges and Roads and Casablanca School for Engineers.

These beneficiaries will participate in 647 workshops for orientation in addition to monthly full scholarships that varies between 1,200 and 2,000 MAD a month [1 USD = 8.4 MAD]. They would also benefit from training sessions in an array of fields.

The OCP aims at empowering   graduates with relevant skills in addition to enhancing their employability within the OCP area of expertise or other sectors.

To this effect, The OCP brokered many agreements with local and international partners. The number of cooperation agreements has reached 26 deals.  Thus, they launched 26 action plans that would be implemented in Khouribga.

It is of note that two centers specialized in the “OCP skills” operation will be soon opened to public.

The whole budget of the “OCP skills” operation mounts up to 400 million MAD. The project is expected to create over 5,800 job opportunities in response to the growing demand on industrial and social services in the industrial zones.

The OCP has put forward a number of criteria in regards to security and employment in signing agreements with foreign partners. Their diligent work in the employment sector stands in alignment with the current conjuncture priorities

The OCP, a state owned Moroccan company created in 1920, is the world’s biggest exporter of phosphates and derivatives.

The company is solely responsible for the production and sale of Moroccan phosphate resources, mined at the Benguérir, Khouribga, Youssoufia mines totaling 85 billion cubic meters of reserves in central Morocco, and Boucraa about 1 billion cubic metre in southern Morocco.
