Marrakech – In the heart of southwestern France, the city of Angouleme has given its Festival du Film Francophone (FFA) a Moroccan makeover that’s as vibrant as a Marrakech marketplace.

From August 27 to September 1, 2024, Angoulême is hosting its Festival du Film Francophone with a Moroccan twist.

As the festival kicked off this Tuesday, the French town transformed into a cinematic homage to Morocco.

This tribute was dedicated to the rich display of Moroccan cinema.

It felt like a French Riviera resort had decided to have a Sahara-themed makeover, except, instead of sand dunes, there were cinema screens showcasing the magic of Moroccan filmmaking.

The Moroccan flag proudly waved from the city hall as if to say, “Bonjour, world,” celebrating the north African country, “the land of cinema and filmmaking.”

Attendees were treated to a kaleidoscope of Moroccan film, spanning generations and offering everything from thought-provoking social commentaries to spellbinding visual stories.

Thanks to the dedication and passion of founders Marie-France Briere and Dominique Besnehard, the festival champions a blend of popular and nuanced cinema that captivates both industry professionals and casual viewers alike.

Supported by long-standing partners like the City of Angoulême, GrandAngoulême, the Charente Department, the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, the Charente Chamber of Commerce, CGR Angoulême, and the CNC, as well as private sponsors who have helped it flourish, the festival shines a spotlight on today’s films, yesterday’s classics, and the stars of tomorrow.
