Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) has announced that the 5th Science Week will take place from February 17-23.

The event seeks to bring together the global scientific community to explore different themes, issues, and perspectives that will shape the world of tomorrow, the university said in a statement today.

The primary goal is to turn the platform into a “space for interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration” as well as to explore the “synergies between fundamental sciences, emerging technologies and societal challenges,” the statement added.

Several themes will cover the event, including agriculture, AI, innovation, and sustainability challenges, among others.

The Science Week symposium will also host panels during conferences, workshops, and roundtables, where experts, entrepreneurs, and researchers will discuss scientific advances and their impact on the economy, environment, and society.

UM6P President Hicham El Habti expressed excitement about the event, noting that it will serve as an opportunity to “rethink our relationship with science and innovation.”

“It offers a space to rethink the world of tomorrow, a world where science and innovation serve human progress and environmental preservation, a world where Africa has a major role to play,” El Habti said.

The UM6P event will feature different speakers, including Jacob Jones, a global phosphorus expert; respected strategist and technocrat Reda Hamedoun; renowned architect Tarik Oualalou; Philippe Esposito, a hydrogen economy expert and entrepreneur; algorithmist and financier Mark Burki; as well as  Richard Lilly, a promoter of mining 5.0.

Medical experts, professors of infectious diseases, and experts from different sectors will also be part of the event.

The event will further delve into AI in different sectors, including health, education, and the economy.

“Sustainable agriculture, a key pillar of food security, will highlight advances in agroecology, soil management, and innovations enabling more efficient and environmentally friendly production,” UM6P’s statement said, noting that innovation will also be discussed to identify sustainable solutions to global challenges.

Interactive sessions will also be part of the event’s agenda, featuring students who will present their research and projects.

“The From Idea to Market” competition will highlight the impact of innovation on business and entrepreneurship,” the statement said.

The Scientific Week will also include the Scientific Village, a platform where UM6P departments will present their resources on local solutions to global challenges.

The school invited participants and those interested in taking part in the event to register through https://scienceweek.um6p.ma/.
